It is hard not to think of good Austin local metal bands and not have Estrum mentioned. It is hard to believe this band has been promoting themselves online for about a year and yet they have made great achievements both online, and in the real world. Achievements such as, according to MySpace's Top Artists, Estrum has reached the #1 unsigned progressive band from Texas. And the #3 unsigned progressive band in the world! So far they have a fan base of over 25,000 myspace friends and over 175,000 plays. With these sort of achievements it is hard to understand how Estrum hasn't already been picked up by a record label. These guys are destined for greatness and it is just a matter of time before someone takes notice of them and give them a record deal.
So why all the buzz you ask? Well, because their songs are beautifully crafted from start to finish. They are the kind of music that you have been craving all of your life, but doubted it's existance The guitar provides a creepy beat unlike anything you have ever heard and will haunt and shake the foundation of your soul. The bass line is perfectly haunting, one that your mind wont soon let you forget. The drums come in slowly and silently, but sneak up in the correct places to make the kill. Still, my favorite part of Estrum would definitely have to be the vocals. Zena Mckelvy, the female front man, knows exactly how to bring her voice out in a way that is soothing, childish at times, but yet it carries the emotion and pain of a person who is carrying the world on their shoulders. The lyrics are genuinely crafted that mix very well with the rest of the instruments to form a very enchanting and hypnotic sound that will drive you insane like the songs of sirens that brought man to their death in Greek mythology. I seriously doubt this deadly combination misses a kill with their extreme sound. Best of all, most of their music is avalable for free on their myspace. Trust me music like this wont last free for to long, so get in there and download it while you still can ! I will get info on their shows as soon as they get confirmation on which parties they will be playing at.
It is my hope that in showcasing this band here, somebody important in the music industry will take notice. If you are that person or if you really enjoyed their music, comment them on myspace telling them you heard it on SXSWCrazy.com
